Spring wildflowers
Spring wildflowers are blooming! The very popular trillium and lady slippers should be blooming soon but will require some hiking to find them. This lovely white flower is a violet. Most of these photos are taken along the roadside so its easy to find some color this time of year.
This violet is growing in the sand (and probably salt ๐) pushed off the road into the ditch by the snow plows all winter long.
I hoped this was serviceberry or shad as they call it around here but it was a wild plum or maybe cherry. Either way a nice bit of color out in a swampy area off the road.
These purple flowers are periwinkle which is a ground cover. Also known as creeping myrtle.
Large areas on the shady floor of the forest are covered with periwinkle in several areas along our walk. Unfortunately it is invasive in New England.
I only got one shot of this Bloodroot but it is not that uncommon and a native plant in Vermont.
These small white flower are actually in my yard. They are wild strawberries ๐
I usually find a few tiny wild strawberries in the summer that manage to avoid my lawnmower.
Marsh Marigolds are one of my favorite flowers this time of year.
They grow in the wetlands all along the little creek that cuts across my yard. Marsh marigolds are native and good early flowers for pollinators. Thanks for checking out my post. I enjoyed putting it together. Maybe it will encourage me to get out and pursue some of the less common wildflowers this week.
