Dear Hivians, finally last weekend I was able to resume my hikes and walks with Shyla and Hive account@giovi86. They had to stop for almost two months, first due to Shyla's foot injury, which is now completely healed, and then for my wrist surgery. All three of us, because Giovanna also never moved from her commitments, were able to take a small trip to the countryside again, of course nothing too challenging this time, since we all need to get back in shape a bit first, but it was important to start moving again, especially for Shyla as she turned 8 this year and the fitter she is, the better it is for her health.

Cari Hivians, finalmente nel weekend passato ho potuto riprendere le mie escursioni e passeggiate con Shyla e Hive account@giovi86. Che per quasi due mesi avevano dovuto subire uno stop, prima per l'incidente al piedi di Shyla, che ora è completamente guarito e successivamente per il mio intervento al polso. Entrambi, anzi tutti e tre, perché anche Giovanna non si è mai mossa ricoperta dagli impegni, abbiamo potuto fare una nuovamente una piccola uscita in campagna, ovviamente nulla di impegnativo per questa volta, visto che dobbiamo rimetterci tutti un po' in forma prima, ma era importante riprendere a muoverci, soprattutto per Shyla visto che quest'anno ha compiuto già 8 anni e più rimane in forma meglio è per la sua salute.

I also took the opportunity to shoot various videos and photos of Hive account@giovi86 and Shyla, to create a video that promotes the love for dogs and the importance of involving them in our lives, by giving our four-legged friends as many experiences as possible. The video is not in this post because it is still in production, I have already started processing the material collected, but I need more videos and life situations before, as well as time for careful editing and revision, so it will take a bit more patience before you can see the finished work.

Con l'occasione ho anche provato a fare vari video e alcune foto a Hive account@giovi86 e Shyla, per creare un video che promuova l'amore per i cani e l'importanza di renderli partecipi della nostra vita, facendo fare più esperienze possibili ai nostri amici a quattro zampe. Il video non c'è in questo post, perché è ancora in produzione, ho già iniziato ad elaborare il materiale raccolto, ma ho necessità di altri video e situazioni di vita prima, nonché il tempo per un accurato montaggio e revisione, per cui ci vorrà ancora un po' di pazienza prima di poter vedere il lavoro finito.

But in the meantime, I will share some moments of this day, through some photos I took of Shyla and Gio, which will not be part of the video in production, although there will be very similar elements accompanying it. In the end, we can consider it a small preview of the video that I will then produce.

I want to point out something in the photos, which is not normally noticeable in classic photos and even in those I take with the Sony camera. There is a very intense subject enhancement in almost all the details, without creating abnormal blurring in the contours, creating a perfect depth that almost gives a three-dimensional effect. This is thanks to the combination of telephoto and wide-angle cameras. Obtaining a direct cover photo, which would require a lot of time in post-production, is a huge advantage for a photographer, it saves hours of work for the most complex posts, where I also use 30/40 photos, which I adjust and optimize in post-production one by one.

Ma nel frattempo condividerò alcuni momenti di questa giornata, tramite alcune foto che ho scattato a Shyla e Gio, che non faranno parte del video in produzione, anche se ci saranno elementi molto simili ad accompagnarlo. Alla fine possiamo considerarla una piccola anteprima del video che poi realizzerò.

Voglio farvi notare una cosa nelle foto, che normalmente non si nota nelle foto classiche e anche in quelle che faccio con la fotocamera Sony. C'è un'esaltazione del soggetto molto intensa in quasi tutti i particolari, senza creare sfocature anomale nei contorni, creando una perfetta profondità che rende quasi un effetto tridimensionale, questo è grazie alla combinazione delle fotocamere telescopiche e grandangolari. Ottenere direttamente una foto da copertina, che richiederebbe molto tempo in post produzione è un vantaggio enorme per un fotografo, toglie ore di lavoro per i post più complessi, dove utilizzo anche 30/40 foto, che vado a regolare e ottimizzare in post produzione una per una.

The only thing that perplexes me is the intensity of the colors in some details, as you can also see the brown of Shyla's chest is too vivid and bright, although the effect is beautiful to see, I am not very happy with this, because it distorts the real color and if I remove saturation I mess up the colors that are already correct and natural. I immediately thought it was a problem with Google's automatic post-processing, which takes photos in RAW digital format but develops them directly in JPG format in the way it deems most correct thanks to AI. For logistical reasons, you can also not save photos in RAW, but as a photographer, I cannot do without the digital negatives even if they weigh 5-6 times more than a JPG format (for example, my JPG photos weigh about 3 MB while RAW photos range from 15 MB and up), but they are needed for post-production as a JPG file loses quality every time it is modified, while a digital negative RAW format can be edited indefinitely without losing quality.

L'unica cosa che mi lascia perplesso è l'intensità nei colori in alcuni particolari, come potete vedere anche il marrone del petto di Shyla è troppo vivido e accedo, anche se l'effetto è bello da vedere, non sono molto felice di questo, perché distorce un po' il reale colore e se vado a togliere saturazione scombino troppo i colori che risultano già corretti e naturali. Subito pensavo che fosse un problema di post produzione automatica del cip di Google, che scatta le foto in formato digitale RAW, ma le sviluppa direttamente in formato JPG nel modo che ritiene più corretto grazie all'AI. Per questioni logistiche di memoria si può anche non salvare le foto in RAW, ma come fotografo non posso non tenere i negativi digitali anche se pesano 5-6 volte di più di un formato JPG (per esempio le mie foto JPG pesano circa 3 Mega mentre le foto RAW vanno da 15 Mega in su), ma servono per la post produzione in quanto un file JPG ogni volta che si modifica perde qualità, mentre un formato negativo digitale RAW si può modificare all'infinito senza che perda qualità.

So I went to check all the digital negatives, to understand if that intense color was due to Google's AI or to the camera itself. Checking every image, I realized that it is indeed the camera that strongly enhances colors on very bright days, even the RAW files are oversaturated. Although for some cases like this I may like the effect, I want to be able to solve this excessive color boost, which in urban photos could make the context too unrealistic. Beautiful on one hand, but I find it a flaw on the other, which I hope Google will fix with future updates. In any case, I was happy to see that the AI chip linked to the camera works very well and tries to reduce oversaturation to make the photo more natural, but there is still a bit too much color boost in some cases, while in others it corrects the final result excellently.

Così sono andato a controllare tutti i negativi digitali, per capire se quel colore così intenso era dovuto all'AI di Google o alle fotocamera in sé. Controllando ogni immagine ho capito che è proprio la fotocamera ad esaltare fortemente i colori nelle giornate molto luminose, anche i file RAW errano oversaturi. Sebbene per alcuni casi come questo può anche piacermi l'effetto, voglio poter risolvere questa spinta eccessiva dei colori, che nelle foto urbane potrebbe rendere troppo irrealistico il contesto. Bello da un lato, ma lo trovo un difetto dall'altro, che spero Google sistemerà con i futuri aggiornamenti. In ogni caso sono stato felice di vedere che il cip dell'intelligenza artificiale legato alla fotocamera lavora molto bene e cerca di diminuire la sovrasaturazione rendendo la foto più naturale, ma rimane sempre un po' troppo spinta nel colore in alcuni casi, mentre in altri correggere ottimamente il risultato finale.
