Herbert and Mahut win doubles title

Saturday had the duo of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hughes Herbert emerge victors at the French Open where they carted home the men's doubles title.

Beating second seeds, Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic, the duo emerged winners of the Saturday encounter on a 6-2 7-6(4) score line.

As Mahut and Herbert started out well with a comfortable win of the opening set, the French fans were in high spirits and full voices.

However, the second set was much more closer. March of Austria and Pavic of Croatia broke back. The seventh game had them drop serve, before forcing the set into a tie breaker.

Still, Mahut and Herbert pushed on, holding their nerve before going on to take the tie breaker, as Herbert stood his ground, punching away a volley.

This sparks a wild celebrations from the duo who had in 2015 won the U.S. Open and gone on to win the Wimbledon in 2016.

In 2014, Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin, a French pair also went on to win the men's doubles at the Roland Garros.

In 1984, it was the pair of Yannick Noah and Henri Leconte that took the titles. These so far are the only all-French pairs that have gone on to win the men's doubles.
