Esports: Another Blockchain Frontier

The proliferation of esports startups has exploded in the last decade. Look no further than operating budgets of many sporting organization and the evidence is plenty. According to an article from SI a few years ago, competitive Gaming is at the time was a $22Billion/yr industry that has quadrupled in size. The percentage of esports was under half a billion dollars - a negligible amount compared to the overall perspective of gaming. Fast forward 3 years and the most interesting aspect of esports has to be the VC funding to startups penetrating this lucrative market and the unlimited potential of blockchain technology to revolutionize the platforms esports operate.

A video gaming report titled "2017 Digital games & Interactive Media Year in Review" from Super Data Research showed esports generated $756M, on track to hit a billion dollars by the end of 2018.

According to a recent article by Crunchbase, funding for esports startups has risen 186% between 2016 and 2017 - on pace to exceed those percentages in 2018 and beyond

This indicates potential for blockchain to penetrate esports. If anyone has further insight into an existing or yet-to-exist esports token, ICO, etc., by all means add to the conversation. I suspect large market controllers will have to engage millennials on more esports platforms as they struggle to maintain supremacy.
