Story Summary

Set in the late 19th century, the legendary monster-hunter Gabriel Van Helsing (played by Hugh Jackman) is sent by the Church to Transylvania to assist the last of the Valerious bloodline, Anna Valerious (played by Kate Beckinsale), in defeating the evil Count Vladislaus Dracula (played by Richard Roxburgh).

Dracula has allied himself with the monstrous creations of Dr. Victor Frankenstein and invoked a werewolf curse in order to unleash evil forces into the world.

Van Helsing and Anna, accompanied by Van Helsing’s priest side-kick Carl the Friar, travel through haunted villages, dark castles, and secret laboratories. They face vampire brides, a savage werewolf, and Frankenstein’s monster, all in the service of stopping Dracula’s plan to dominate the night.

Ultimately the film is a whirlwind of gothic horror + action: Van Helsing confronts his own mysterious past, battles monsters, and fights to restore peace — while Anna fights for her family’s legacy and the future of humanity.
