The Dry Winds.....

Hello everyone! I'm a bit new here 😊
I haven't really written much since 2020 but I'd like to share a piece I wrote back then

The Dry Winds.....

The dry winds are here again!
Once they heralded a season of plenty
Now they come after a year of pain
The dry winds.....shaking down the barns which are empty

The dry winds are here again!
Once they ushered in a period of abundance
Now they come when there is no grain
The dry winds.....caking the feet which engage in a sorrowful dance

The dry winds are here again!
Once they accompanied carols and lively tunes
Now they come days after hope was slain
The dry winds.....blowing about the pieces we salvaged from the ruins

The dry winds are here again!
Once they called children to revel in its wake
Now they come as harsh as the sting of the cane
The dry winds.....uprooting all they have laboured to stake

The dry winds are here again!
Once they called on friends to call on friends
Now they come after we have been bound in chains
The dry wings.....rattling each link to no end

The dry winds are here again!
Once they bore the birds of love
Now they come after we have gone insane
The dry winds.....straightening out the wings we try to curve

The dry winds are here again!
Once they marked the end of our year
Now they come to fan its flame
The dry winds.....strengthening our lips to speak with no fear
