Some incredibly shocking statistics and facts in the book "Not a Crime to Be Poor" by Peter Edelman, talk given at Politics & Prose here:
Just pulling out one of them --- after the Columbine school massacre, the USA, in somewhat typical over-reaction and victim blaming misdirection of justice, starting sending more children to court for minor crimes. So yeah, right, children are the problem, schools are a hotbed for anarchism and crime. Nice one adults, way to shed the blame. Between 2011 and 2012 over 260,000 school children were arrested and/or sent to court in the USA. In Texas and Wyoming they would be sent to adult court.
