LONG TIME NO OKRO

It's been nearly 8 years since I last had okro soup. okro soup is a delicious Nigerian soup made with okro and other ingredients.
I stopped eating it for personal reasons, and even though I had chances to have it again, I just didn't feel like it. But recently, I thought, why not give it a try and see if I can still enjoy it.
I went to the market to get the ingredients I needed to make the soup. My house is really close to the market so I always get fresh ingredients for my food.

INGREDIENTS
Okra
Smoked fish
Palm oil
Cow skin
Locust beans
Meat.

After coming back from the market the next thing I did was rest a little bit and then to prepare my okro, the first thing I did was cut it into smaller pieces. I grated the pepper using my hand grater. I flaked the smoked fish into bite-sized portions, and I diced the cow skin into smaller sizes.

Okro soup is sometimes referred to as "draw soup" because of its slimy or "drawy" consistency when cooked. I don’t like that about it.
There are two methods of cooking okro soup. I prefer this method I am about to share because it makes the okro soup less slimy but not totally.

Next, I heated some palm oil in the pot and added the pepper, smoked fish, and locust beans.

I cooked them until they were done, then added some water and let it simmer for a few minutes. After that, I added some seasoning.

After a few minutes, I added the okro

and immediately added the already fried meat. I let it cook until it was fully done.

After that, I made semovita. Semovita is a popular Nigerian food made from wheat. It is processed and milled to a fine texture. It is used to make a dough-like consistency that can be formed into solid balls.

I had my okro soup with semovita.

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog. Thank you for stopping by.
