This Cafe Has a Backyard – Loka Coffee

Some shady corners in the hottest city

A quiet cafe is indeed a perfect place to relax. Especially if it has a slightly peaceful atmosphere with a shady corner. I was searching for cafe recommendation with reliable wifi in my city and this place came up. But if it wasn’t because I passed by this café on the way home from my go-to coffee shop, I wouldn’t even remember this place.

Loka Coffee and Eatery is located in west Surabaya. Once you enter this cafe, the first thing you might feel is some comfort. It has a calming ambience and warm-looking interior design. The seating area pretty much has the same layout, so wherever you choose to sit, I’m sure you'll feel comfortable.

When I was there, there were people who hung out in groups, but also a few people working on their laptops. Actually, the front indoor area of Loka Coffee isn’t that big. However, there is a separate smoking area, which is very nice from a non-smokers perspective like me haha. Anyway, this cafe also has a quite minimalist design with a few hanging plants decoration that keep the indoor area still feels relatively fresh, if that make sense😂

When it comes to the menu, I think it’s still reasonably priced. Beside coffee and snacks, they also have a variety of main dishes. But since it’s like a typical cafe selection, I only ordered a drink and snack. I've always wanted to try the burnt cheese cake but it was out of stock everytime I went there. So I opted for the brownie instead, another day I chose croffle. And I don’t think their coffee menu is interesting enough, so I just ordered a flavored tea that day. But maybe I should check the coffee selection again if I'm back.

I checked out the other side of Loka Coffee besides the spot where I'd been sitting for hours. That was when I found the interesting part of this cafe, which is the backyard. It’s an outdoor area filled with greenery. And it has an entrance sort of, which also features hanging lights. Perhaps the lights will be turned on at night, which I think would make the atmosphere even pleasant.

In another corner of the backyard, there’s a semi outdoor seating area. No one was there when I checked it out, so it seems like a perfect spot for those who want to be alone. I’m not sure about the wifi connection around the backyard area, but now that I've seen the photo I took, I really feel like I should try to work there. That semi outdoor area might be an ideal spot to relax while enjoying the view of the backyard filled with various types of plants.

Oh, furthermore, there’s a small space (almost like a stage), exactly for performances. Because based on the content I’ve seen on social media, Loka Coffee also occasionally hosts live music performances. Perhaps there’s a fixed schedule or something. Anyway, with the menu prices and stable wifi, the atmosphere of this cafe feels quite fitting my preference.
