How do you managing your screen time these days?
I need to cut back, but here’s a failed “restart”
I've known for a long time that social media has been a huge influence on me. However, this year it feels like at its peak. I can’t even name how it was influencing me one by one, but I know I definitely need to cut back. The funny thing is, I’m not even active on social media. By that, I mean I rarely post about my life online. I have an instagram account with only 19 followers–each of them is someone I was close in the past or still am.
So my instagram account is like a second account. You know, the kind of account that usually just for posting private content to share with someone close to you, and not for strangers. Unfortunately (or should I say “luckily enough” now), I haven’t been able to log into my account since probably the beginning of this year. It says my password is wrong, even though I don’t think I’ve ever changed it.
But I do have another account just for checking news and such. It's not a fake account; back then I planned to open an online store but ultimately canceled it. So now I use that account to follow things I’m interested in. The purpose is actually to see important updates without having to bother viewing my friends’ posts, if that make sense?
I planned to start this month with a new approch to my screen time. Because honestly, it wasn’t just social media. Sometimes, after downloading a show or series, I would ended up spending hours and hours watching it and procrastinating on doing something more important. So I wanted to start a digital detox, where I’ll restart the way I use my phone and other devices. But it was fail.
With the demonstrations and other things happening in my country earlier this month, I feel the need to at least stay updated. Which actually isn’t entirely true; maybe I don’t need to spending so much time reading and watching heart-breaking news. But that’s what I did. And eventually, I reverted to my old habits of doom scrolling. Sometimes, when tired of news, I’ll escape by watching a fun show or something. For me now, neither of those are good things to continue.
Can you give me tips on how do you managing your screen time these days?
