Sleepy Duck
I found this nice green area within a local hospital the other day. It was built with two levels, one quite a bit higher than the other, connected by a gently sloping path. Chairs and tables all around and a café on the lower level. I was there for physio and hand therapy appointments. It was a beautiful sunny day and after I was finished everything I had to do I thought I'd sit here for a little while and enjoy the surrounds.
There was a pond as can be seen in the photo above, that narrowed and extended to the left of the image, before descending and curving around to the lower level, so that water would babble its way down, meandering around rocks and bends in its course to settle in a larger pool at the bottom. It was then pumped and sprayed gently from a fountain on the upper level starting the recirculation again. A lot of effort had been put in to make it a nice, calming space. The atmosphere was serene.
At the top, quietly floating in a still corner of the pond was this sleepy duck. I snuck over to a nearby bench and was able to get a couple of pictures. Though I was worried I'd bother the duck, it wasn't even phased by my presence: Just lazily opening an eye on occasion to check the scene.
So that's my tiny story about spending a few quiet moments alone with a snoozing duck.
Lucky day.
