Tuxedo cat holder

The project I'm sharing today is a DIY, but also a material reuse project — giving a second life to things that would otherwise end up in the trash. I recently showed a few things I’ve been creating while playing around with air-dry clay (biscuit), and this is another one of those experiments. After all, my goal is to use up all the clay I have!

This time, I decided to make a small storage container, thinking it could be another spot to keep my pens or paintbrushes.

For the base, I used a plastic water bottle. Unfortunately, I didn’t take photos of that step, so you’ll just have to trust me when I say that’s how it all began. I cut the bottle in half and started covering it with the clay, trying to make it as smooth and even as possible.

Then I let the piece dry for over 24 hours before moving on to the painting stage.

I truly apologize, for this project there won’t be step-by-step photos, as I lost most of the images. But I think it’s still pretty easy to get the general idea of how everything came together.

Once the piece was completely dry, I covered it with red acrylic paint and used a pencil to sketch an oval shape in the center. That oval was then painted pink, creating a background for the main design.

And for the illustration, I went with one of my favorites again, a tuxedo cat.
I sketched the cat with a pencil first, then filled everything in using acrylic paint.

After finishing the painting, I sealed the piece with a coat of spray varnish, and it was done.
I tested a few spots around the house to place it, and I actually think it turned out quite cute, especially considering I don’t have much experience with this kind of craft.

I think this could be a fun project to try with kids, and I hope you enjoy it.
