Morgan School..... Spitting Eagle

Hello everyone.....

Yep, it’s that time a again. So grab your pens and notebooks, Class is now in session.

Today I will be showing you a Morgan Silver Dollar variety from the Carson City Mint. The coin is an 1891-CC and it is listed as VAM3. Better know by the collecting world as “The Spitting Eagle”.
There is no explanation as to how this variety occurred since it is a raised profile variety in the field of the coin, which is uncommon. If you take a look at the photos of the reverse of the coin that I have attached, you will see a small object in a teardrop shape just in front of the eagles open mouth.

This coin is highly sought after by Morgan Silver Dollar collectors and can make you a very nice profit in all conditions. The 1891-CC is one of the relatively common years they were produced, with mintage of nearly 1.7 million, so your chance of finding one of these is better then many other Carson City minted coins.

I have never personally owned one of this variety, but have a friend that was a major player in the estate sale business, (back when they were very profitable), who has had many of these. His personal collection is breathe taking to say the least.

While this won’t be one of the easier Morgan Silver Dollars to find, they are still possible. So grab your loupe and start hunting.

Class dismissed...
