Sublime Skank Assassin, Issue 01

This is the kind of thing that I work on when I'm bored. During the last week while I was between house-sits and living on the streets I got almost a week ahead on my webcomics schedule, so I had time to just play around with my art software.

Back when I was taking art courses at University of Hawaii, one of my favorite thing to work with was conte crayon. Which typically only comes in three colors: black, white, and sanguine (sepia). So, I thought, I'll just work with virtual conte crayon and draw a skank with a gun and a cigarette reclining on a bed in her underwear. Just used a three-color palette and a gouache brush tool to make this.

When I started drawing I was working on a square canvas, but then decided, hey I bet I could make this into a comic book cover. So I just expanded the canvas and used aitubo.ai to generate the title logo. I'm not good at lettering. And aitubo is one of the few free AI tools that actually will generate images with real words. Most just turn words into gibberish.

Like this "create a title logo for a comic book called "Sublime Skank Assassin" on plain white background, clean outline":

Actually some (NightCafe) wouldn't even allow me to try because the word "skank" is apparently on their list of banned word prompts.

So, why Sublime Skank Assassin? I just liked the alliteration and the juxtaposition of two words that don't really fit together.

Sublime: Characterized by nobility; majestic.
Skank: a vulgar slang term, chiefly in the U.S., for a person—especially a woman—who is very sexually active or dresses in an overtly sexual way

Kind of like the way conte crayon for comic book art doesn't really match.

And she may as well be an assassin.
