Some important facts about Pigeons :-

The Scientific Name of Pigeons is Columba livia .
Pigeons are incredibly complex and intelligent creatures. Common pigeons are also known as rock pigeons or rock doves and are called pigeons in India. Feral pigeons are the most common birds in cities, breeding throughout the year and living in urban areas, favorite prey of raptors.
In modern times, pigeons have been used to great effect during warfare.

Pigeons have excellent hearing. They can detect sounds at much lower frequencies than humans are capable of and thus hear distant storms and natural calamities.
Pigeons can able to fly at altitudes of up to 6000 feet and above and at an average speed of 77.6 mph. The fastest recorded speed is 92.5 mph.

The earliest large-scale communication networks using pigeons as messengers were established.The city of Baghdad and all major cities and towns in Syria and Egypt were connected by messages carried by pigeons.

In World War I and II, pigeons saved hundreds of thousands of lives by carrying messages across enemy lines.
