Good day, everyone! Welcome to my blog again for Afri-Tune Week 178. My name is Hive account@shemjosh, and I'll be performing a Gbagyi folk song titled "Toya Ga Akuta Mwamwan."

The Gbagyi tribe is one of the Nigerian languages predominantly found in the North Central (Middle Belt) region. As a native of Gbagyi, I can attest that music, including folk music, is an integral part of our identity and storytelling.

Growing up in a Christian community, I was raised to sing songs that edified and glorified God. "Toya Ga Akuta Mwamwan," which translates to "We shouldn't honor stones as gods," is a call-and-response song that emphasizes the importance of worshiping God alone. The lyrics affirm that Jesus is sufficient and that we shouldn't worship creations like stones, trees, or mountains.
