Making Lemonade
A couple of days ago, I wrote a blog post about choosing a new direction and considering a change from what I was doing to find something that works better. It's funny how life finds a way to force your hand sometimes. What I have been doing isn't working anymore; in fact, it has stopped working entirely. I now have no choice but to change direction and start over.
I'm not broken up about it because I knew it was something I needed to do anyway. So while this is inconvenient, in a way, I'm glad it happened. I didn't have to burn my boat to prevent myself from going back; it simply sank on its own. Starting today, I begin a new journey to find where I need to be in the coming months or years. I can't help but think that had I not been preparing for this already, it might have been more difficult for me to accept. Perhaps I would have been crushed or really bummed out.
Lessons in Resilience
There's an old saying that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. This means your perspective on a situation makes all the difference. You can have bad luck and then turn around and use it as a launching point to do something better.
I think what makes this easier to accept is that I had no grand illusions that where I was heading would be all that great. When we have our hopes and dreams set on a goal and that goal is snatched away from us, it's easier to feel down about it. But when you're going in an uncertain direction and are suddenly forced to change, perhaps it's easier because you're not really losing anything. You weren't all that excited to get there in the first place.
I'm not sure if this is a result of me being resilient, or if it's simply the reality of the situation: I was going to be changing directions anyway. The coming days will be challenging as I have remaining obligations, but I won't be able to keep up with them while working on the transition. On the bright side, I should have more time to blog and create content. So perhaps you will be hearing more from me in the coming days.
