Bantayan Island is an island in the North of Cebu City, which I can recommend for a stay of several days or even longer. though the size of the island is such that you need a whole day to visit the most important places by motorbike and to get the first important impressions.

How to reach Bantayan from Cebu - City?

The first question that always interests those who want to travel is: how do I reach the place?

If travelling from Europe, continuing to Bantayan Island on the same day after arriving at the international airport on Mactan Island, Cebu is not really advisable. Of course, other factors also play an important role here, such as the arrival time in Cebu or whether a reservation has already been made on Bantayan before arrival.
The taxi ride to Hagnaya, the town in the north-east of Cebu Island, from where ferries to Santa Fé on Bantayan are ready, costs about 1200 pesos (or more) and will take about 90 minutes.

In my view, however, one should not miss the bus ride there, which is also cheaper and already offers a lot of insight into everyday Philippine life. For this purpose, you have to go to the "North (bus) Terminal" in Cebu. The taxi ride there from the international airport should not cost more than 300 pesos. Tickets for the bus from Cebu City to Hagnaya currently cost (as of 2/2011) 110 peso for the bus with 'Aircon' and 70 peso without. The journey takes three hours.

From Hagnaya, ferries cross over to the island every 90 minutes or so at a current fare of 150 pesos (as of 2/2011). The trip takes pretty much exactly 90 minutes.

Conquering Bantayan Island by motorbike
After spending the first night on Bantayan and getting over the stress of travelling, you should explore the island's interior.

The best way to do this is by motorbike, which can be rented for 300 pesos (or maybe even less) for the whole day.
The small town of Santa Fé, where most of the resorts are located, would be a good place to start. The townscape, buildings and streets look very inviting.
