The Medal

He thought about it. A race against the fastest in the school.
He didn't want to bring any unnecessary attention to himself, yet he couldn't deny the beauty of that gold medal.
It was enamoring. Glittering in the sun like something out of a pirate story.

He didn't know when he took on the baton and said he would run for the track races.
He remembered his promise to his parents, "Never Run Dave. Your body can't handle the amount of speed your legs produce."
That was 4 months ago though and he's sure he has become stronger since then.

He took his place with the other contestants. "Murmuring and Praying to the little speed demon revving in his body that he just needs a little burst of speed.

"On your marks." The teacher in charge of the race called.
Everyone took the required stance, knees bent, hands on the floor and eyes straight forward.
"Get set..." The stance changed again. His demon revved some more, convinced and aware that it was indeed a race, ready to stretch its legs and in consequence, destroy Dave's.
"Go.." The gunshot was fired and they were off.

Then just like that the time is over 😃.
