Three Tune Tuesday - Ian Dury And The Blockheads
Hello music lovers! π΅
It's Tuesday, time for #threetunetuesday, and a chance for me to share something I'm listening to.
My last post here was a week ago, and continuing with the music, I'm recalling memories from the past together with you.
Today I remember a nice punk/new wave/funk band called Ian Dury and the Blockheads. They were formed in the late 1970s (1977), on the wave of punk and new wave, and for a while, they were very popular with several Top 10 hits in the UK charts. The frontman, vocalist, and songwriter was Ian Dury, who also appeared in a couple of films, and was in the band until 2000, when he died of cancer. Ian Dury was also an actor, appearing in a few TV series to name but a few King Of The Ghetto, he also had small film roles in The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989), Judge Dredd (1995) and many others.
From 1977 to 1998, they released four albums, and then The Blockheads continued without Ian, released seven more albums, and are still performing today.
I liked the music, as I said, cynical, polished punk with a touch of funk, and musically and lyrically it was quite sophisticated and a lot of fun.

For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.

So, to continue with the music, I've picked out a few clips.
Ian Dury and The Blockheads β Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick
The song was released as a single in late 1978 and was their biggest hit, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart in January 1979.

Ian Dury and The Blockheads - What A Waste
The song was released as a single in 1978, just like the previous one, and only later included in the compilation 'Hit Me! The Best Of' in 2002 because Ian Dury insisted that songs released as singles were not included on albums.

Ian Dury and The Blockheads - Sweet Gene Vincent
The song is from their debut album New Boots and Panties!!, released in September 1977. The album has been hailed by music critics as something Ian Dury and the Blockheads will never surpass. I mean, they were probably right. The recording is from a live performance in Paris in 1978.
Well, let's have a bonus :)
Ian Dury and the Blockheads - Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
This song was also written for the album New Boots and Panties!!, but due to censorship, it was included in some places and not in others. It was a big hit, but it didn't get much airplay (at least at the time) on radio stations or, god forbid, on TV. But it was covered a lot and became a hymn and synonymous with rock musicians.
That's all for today, thank you for your attention. I hope today's selection was interesting and put you in a relaxed mood like it did me :)
