Anubis

Anubis dear.jpg

Whispers in the darkness
Shadows lying deep

Shifting uncomfortably
Ending tortured sleep

Sheened in sweat now
Grasping for the light

Coalescing from the shade
Jackal headed lord of night

The lamplight falters, no sallying forth.
To chase away the gloom

My voice a crackling husk
Echoing eerily in the room

What do you want with me?
You dog-head God of old.

Take your scales, begone with you
My tongue began to scold

Impassive he moved closer
Reaching out a hand

Somehow I knew a single touch
Would draw me from this land

I scrabbled for a weapon
Anything to use in my attack

It was then I saw my body
Lying dead upon its back

I knew his purpose true then
Not so dark this god of night

I reach a hand to take his
and let him guide me past the light
