It Begins...

Ok so, if you don't know, today marks the start of the playtest for the next iteration of Dungeons and Dragons codenamed: One D&D. We don't know much right now since the PDF wont be released till 12:00 PST today. But from the interview with Jeremy Crawford we did get some information.

  • First, something I mentioned in my Spelljammer Review, backgrounds get feats now.
  • Humans and Tieflings can now be Medium or Small sized.
  • New race called Ardling, which are higher plane race based on Animal Achrons
  • Race no longer determines ability scores, Backgrounds do.
  • Backgrounds are WAY more important, because you build them yourself.
  • Feat will have level restrictions again.
  • Also sounds like feats will go back to being grouped by type, such as Combat or Metamagic.
  • Spells lists are being simplified into Arcane, Divine, Primal.
  • Conditions and Inspiration will be changing.
  • Critical hits might be changing, only players using Weapons or Unarmed can crit.
  • Further Critical changes include, Nat 20s and 1s effect ability and saving throws, not just attacks

This is what I know right now, but the PDF goes live in less than an hour. You can sign up for the playtest at https://www.dndbeyond.com/one-dnd. Let me know what you think of the changes in the comments. Until next time!

Edited

So the PDF has been live for about 2 hours, and I gotta say its pretty good. I like the direction that stuff is taking for the most part. The Savage Attacker Feat still needs work in my opinion.
