CONSUMER POWER

We Participate in the market both as producer and consumer.consumer participate in the market when they purchase goods and services that they need.

   There is a need for rules and regulations to ensure participation of the consumer in the market place.
 There was no legal system available for consumer to protect them from exploitation in the market place, for a long time.it was presumed that it was the responcibility of consumers to be careful while buying a commodity or service.

In india, the consumer movement as a social free originated with the necessity of protecting and promoting.the interest of consumers against unethical and unfair trade practice.
A major step taken in 1986 by the indian goverment,it is known as COPRA.
In Oct 2005 ,the government of india enacted a law popularly known as RTI(Right to Information) Act.which ensures it's citizens all the information about the function of gov .Departments.

 Consumer have the right to seek redressal against unfair trades practices and exploitation under COPRA.
 Thus,the act has enabled us as consumers to have the right to represent in the consumer courts.
