DISAPPOINTMENT

Disappointment is part of my everyday life, but there is this one experience that left a scar in my heart. I don't know why it hurt me that much despite the fact that I let go easily—maybe because of his family or maybe because I put all my eggs in one basket.

I was at the climax of my digital marketing course and had not yet completed my tuition fee when all my coursemates had already paid. I asked my uncle for assistance, and he said he was on a trip and that I should come around when he returned.

I was told he had returned after a week, so I tried calling him. The phone would ring multiple times, but no one answered. I tried calling for three consecutive days, but still, no one picked up. Many times, I asked my parents if he was really back, and my dad would say he had just spoken with him a moment ago. Immediately, I would try calling the same number, but still, he didn't pick up.

I was heartbroken. Lots of thoughts ran through my mind—had I done something wrong to deserve this treatment, or was he just being cruel to me? So, I stopped calling and started looking for another alternative.

I never wanted to worry my parents about it, so I kept it to myself. But fortunately for me, I got huge help that saved me from the shame that almost came my way.

I have actually forgiven him—no grudge. We met during our vacation, and we even drank together. I believe this is just what life does: if you allow it, you will be broken; but if you understand it, you will definitely let go of hate, jealousy, etc.

I am stronger than I used to be—emotionally, physiologically, spiritually, and mentally—so disappointment doesn’t affect me as much anymore.
