To compare is to get better

Greetings!

One thing that cannot be taken out of man is comparison, humans would always compare themselves with others, that's just the simple truth about life. Another thing is that, there's no high human status . They would still be looking at those in front of them because human wants are insatiable.

Having said this, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt before me which is all about “comparison.”

Well to me, there's nothing too bad when we humans compare ourselves with others and this is because it's always good to look deep inside our lives and see for ourselves all those things that are not working as they should work.

If there's a friend of ours doing well, there should be no crime in us comparing ourselves with such a fellow so as to be great as the said person is. However, one thing we should not do whenever we try to compare ourselves with others is to be envious of others greatness or achievements to the extent that we would now be thinking bad of them and their achievements. If such is the motive behind our comparison, then there should be no need for us to compare ourselves to others.

Also, if comparing ourselves to others would bring about depression and frustration instead of personal development, then we should not even go into comparing ourselves to others as this may affect our lives negatively.

For someone like me, I have once compared my bad and poor academic performance with that of a friend of mine who was flying high in the class, but one thing I didn't do was to be envious of this my friend, also, I didn't look down at myself either. The only thing that I did was to move close to this friend of mine and it was in the process of our close relationship that I was able to learn from him and now, I'm also doing well in my studies.

In conclusion, to compare ourselves with others is not a bad idea at all, but we must do so with a good and reasonable mind so as to achieve the needed result of what comparison stands for.
