The Real Update on Ukraine

Quick update on Ukraine

If you only get your information from the Western press all you may know about Ukraine this week is that the Ukrainian forces have invaded the Kursk region of Russia, and are blowing up bridges on Russian soil.

This is a mega embarrassment to the Kremlin and has no doubt been a successful optic for the Ukrainians as they repeatedly ask for more financial aid and weapons from the West.

The UK is currently pushing for Ukraine to use long range missiles to fire into Russia but so far the US has blocked this move.

It is an historic irony that German made Leopard tanks are once again being used in Kursk, 81 years after the titanic battle during World War 2.

What you might have missed is that the Russians have been making great progress along the critical Donetsk front in several places as the AFU has transferred large numbers of elite units to the Kursk invasion. If you have been used to the slow progress of the Russian army in the past this almost feels like a bit of a collapse by Ukraine.

This week New York was liberated. (Not that New York!) In addition the settlements of Komyshivka, Zavitne, and Novozhelanne are also now under Russian control, with advances also reported near Mykolaivka.

Meanwhile an article in the Washington Post about a ceasefire in relation to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure appears to have been a complete pack of lies. Most likely taken from the Swiss held peace conference to which Russia wasn’t invited. It posed the state of Qatar as hosting peace talks. Qatar have subsequently denied any involvement or desire to hold peace talks.

Furthermore, after this invasion into Russia’s Kursk region Lavrov has spoken angrily about there can now be no peace talks. You feel a red line has finally been crossed.

Andrew Latham, a senior fellow at the Institute for Peace and Diplomacy, called the decision to attack Kursk a strategic blunder for Kyiv, which continues to lose land by the day in its eastern flank to Russia.

Fears that Ukraine were going to seize or bomb a nuclear power plant have thankfully proven untrue. Although understanding how badly the war is going for them on the ground makes this possibility more likely than less, blaming it on the Russians. Russia troops are building defences at both power plants – Kursk and Zaporizhzhia.

Scott Ritter told Sputnik;

Ukraine is going to lose another 30 percent or more of its territory when this is done because Russia has basically determined that Ukraine can't be trusted, the West can't be trusted, that Russia can never believe in the notion of a Ukraine willing to live in peace with its Russian neighbor.

The fact is with a commanding position in the war why would you stop now – you go ahead and crush your enemy before they can find a flimsy, diplomatic ploy to get out of it. The BBC declares Russia will have to take Kiev. Maybe now they will have to.
