Conwy Estuary

photo_2026-03-20_18-26-17.jpg

Cradled in this afternoon’s glow,
the estuary, poured in molten ore,
a shimmering bath,
glowing like precious gemstone.

Heat drips from the horizon,
where we bask, steeped in warm honey.
Sunlight drapes its arms around our shoulders,
seagulls cry and arc overhead,
while the river laps the resting hulls.

Banks of sand and silt emerge,
the slow exhale of the tide,
a wind ripples the wide water,
brushing our cheeks.

Shadows of distant mountains stretch like sleeping dragons,
waiting a fiery arousal.
A cormorant perches on the pontoon,
drying its feathers in the late afternoon’s transition.

We breathe deeply,
surrendered, submerged,
to the dark, salty currents,
knowing this is just a reprieve,
as today the globe which holds us tight,
cradled in this afternoon’s glow,
will be gone tomorrow.
