A Wednesday Walk Between Two Waters

After a persistent season of rain-soaked Wednesdays, the sky finally relented, granting my friend and me the gift of a sun-dappled afternoon stroll along the canal. Our journey, a modest 3.1 miles, unfolded beneath a capricious sky—at times brooding with heavy clouds, at others pierced by shafts of golden light. Mindful of this community, #wednesdaywalk, and eager to share the unfolding beauty, my camera was a constant companion, ready to capture the fleeting moments of scenery.

The path itself was edged by a ribbon of green, gracefully embraced by the tranquil canal on one side and the murmuring river on the other. A profound sense of gratitude settled upon me, recognizing the privilege of such natural splendor at my very doorstep.

We were not alone in our appreciation of this sudden reprieve. Joggers, cyclists, and fellow walkers, all drawn by the unexpected warmth, shared the path. A silent camaraderie passed between us—smiles exchanged, heads nodded in shared acknowledgment of the day's simple joys.

The usual inhabitants of this waterside world made their appearance: the placid ducks, the majestic horses. Yet, today held a small, delightful surprise—the unexpected sight of a donkey, adding a touch of the pastoral to the familiar.

As our route gently ascended, we encountered a series of weirs, each a dramatic punctuation mark in the water's journey. Here, the hushed serenity of the canal gave way to a boisterous symphony, the rushing water a vibrant counterpoint to the earlier quietude.

And then, a canal boat, its weathered facade seeming to gaze back at us, a whimsical face emerging from the industrial canvas.

Further along, the stoic beauty of industrial architecture stood as a testament to human endeavor, a stark yet compelling contrast to the organic forms surrounding it.

Finally, with tired feet and contented hearts, we found comfort in a warm pot of tea, a perfect end to a walk that was as much a journey inward as it was a path along the water.
