What My Heart Still Refuses to Forget

Hey friends, some memories fade over time and some people gradually fall behind on life's journey, but the heart is a strange thing: it holds onto certain things so tightly that even years later their memory still feels as vivid as if they were right here with us, and we… to talk about things.
My heart, too, refuses to summon some of those same things—and a small smile is that strange cruelty we used to share when we sat together on ordinary days and spoke of precious things. Sometimes I think that people don't remember people themselves, but the memories tied to them. Time has changed so much—it's changed people, it's changed paths—but friends, those memories still remain. Suddenly, in the silence of the night or when I hear an old song, those memories come flooding back. My heart, often recalling these things, has never been able to rest fully—perhaps that's why unfinished stories linger so long, while once a story is complete, it leaves behind only questions echoing in the valley.
Even today my heart refuses to forget certain things, but you don't hurt me because of that. I consider these memories part of my story—a part that makes me stronger and wiser. Sometimes forgetting isn't a victory; sometimes living with memories is the real victory.
And there are those who will always stay with you. The same thing happens to you: when there's a happy occasion or an achievement you've reached, you think, “I wish they were here with us—how happy they'd be, and we'd be happy just seeing their smile.” “I wish I could go back. I wish they were here with us.”
