The Laughing Dove – A Peaceful Little Bird

The Laughing Dove is a small and beautiful bird that we see every day in Pakistan, especially in Punjab. In Urdu, we call it فاختہ. It is known for its sweet and soft voice that sounds like it is laughing softly, which is why it is called Laughing Dove.

🪺 How does it look?

The Laughing Dove is a small bird with a pinkish-brown body. Its neck has tiny black spots that look like a necklace. Its feathers shine softly in the sunlight, giving it a very calm and pretty look

This bird is found:

• ✅ On trees and bushes

• ✅ Near homes and gardens

• ✅ Even in busy city parks

It loves quiet places where it can build its small nest safely.

🥚 Its Nest and Eggs

The Laughing Dove makes a simple nest using dry sticks, usually on tree branches or thick bushes. It lays two small white eggs. Both the mother and father dove sit on the eggs to keep them warm until the babies hatch. 🐣

🍽️ What does it eat?

This bird mostly eats:

• Small seeds

• Grains (like rice, wheat, millet)

• Tiny insects sometimes

You will often see it walking on the ground with quick steps, looking for food.
