Whitby places of worship
Following yesterday's Whitby Pubs I thought a little salvation was in order. Whitby is blessed with one place of worship for every two pubs.
This is the mother of places of worship in Whitby. The Whitby Abbey founded in 657 by Hild but the remains are 13th century.
St Hilda's Catholic Church
Church of Saint John the Evangelist
Brunswick Methodist church built in 1891 but no longer a church. The building is now called The Brunswick Centre.
Flowergate United Reformed Church which was opened around 1945.
Next door to the United Reformed Church is the Church House
Whitby Evangelical Church
St Hilda's Anglican Church
St Mary's is next to the abbey and at the top of the 199 steps. Although still in regular use, the graveyard stopped being used in the 1850s. A lot of the graveyard has now fallen into the sea with cliff erosion.
