Managing our flood situation

Here we added a path for the water to flow away from the house. It also had a deeper section right near a tree so that it will help with the drainage.

No matter how much we dug, water kept coming and bringing along sediments which covered the trenches once again. We decided to pile up the mud on the walls to serve as a barrier.

The rain water receivers kept over filling so it was necessary to keep emptying them while we dealt with everything else

That night it snowed, but by morning all the water had been successfully evacuated 💪

This is where we sent the water and though we had our doubts if it would work, it did it's job nicely.

The cold returned and choli@choli took this amazing pic of the ice.

Now the floor is still moist but it's not a problem, we still have a few layers to add when spring arrives and it was going to have to be moistened anyway. In that sense the incident had it's benefits.

Little more than a week ago our home was flooded. It was a situation of frozen ground + heavy rains, which meant there was no drainage and the stream went over the top, flooding even the roads

In the moment it was quite frustrating and we just wanted to move out, leaving behind the dream of living in this forest. But we managed to get our shit together and begin digging trenches (as much as we could with the hard frozen ground), while also taking water out with a bucket where we could until we managed to emerge victorious from this challenge.

No matter what you do, life will always have it's challenges and though giving up is an option, fighting the fight is usually rewarding.

The weather seems to be changing and the sun's rays are beginning to offer some warmth so hopefully we'll soon be able to begin our garden.

Thanks to everyone who offered kind words during our little crisis and to everyone who support us on our journey. Have a beautiful weekend 🌺
