Dealing with daily financial struggles

There are days I sit down and just ask myself why money always looks like water. No matter how much you try to hold it, it keeps finding its way out of your hands. I know I am not the only one that feel this way, because I see many people battling with the same financial struggles every single day.

The truth is, money is never enough. Salary comes in, before you even take a deep breath, bills have already lined up waiting for their turn. House rent, feeding, light bill, transportation, family support, and then one unexpected expense will just show up from nowhere. It’s like money don’t even want to stay with us.

One thing I have realized about daily financial struggle is that most times, it’s not really because we are reckless with spending. Sometimes, it’s simply because what is coming in is not enough compared to what is going out. And when you check it closely, most of us are not even spending on luxury, it’s just the basics of life that swallows the money.

Take me for example, last month I told myself I must save at least 150k no matter what. But all the money I see went for something else, my house rent, Then came foodstuff, transportation to work, small contribution I have to send home, and one hospital bill for a cousin. Before I knew it, the month never even reach middle, I was already looking at my account balance with pity. The 150k savings plan? It never even saw daylight.

It can be frustrating honestly, because sometimes you feel like you are working hard but nothing to show. Many of us are in that stage where we are not poor, but we are also not financially free. We are just floating in between, trying to make ends meet and praying that something will change soon.

Another thing about daily financial struggle is the mental stress it brings. You wake up thinking about how to stretch the little you have, and at night you are still calculating how tomorrow will be. It’s like a cycle that doesn’t break. But in all honesty, it also teaches discipline. You start learning how to prioritize, how to say no to unnecessary spending, how to cut down things that are not urgent.

For me, I have started writing down every single expense. Even if I buy pure water, I will write it. It helps me to see where my money is going and where I can reduce. Sometimes the small, small things are the real leakages.

At the end of the day, I believe daily financial struggles are something almost everybody face, no matter the level. Some people are struggling with 50k salary, some are struggling with 500k salary. The only difference is the size of their bills. So, I don’t even beat myself too much anymore, I just try to do better each day, save when I can, and remind myself that money will always come and go.
