When a hummingbird returns a smile | Show Me A Photo Contest Round 253 [ENG-ESP]

If there's one thing I've learned from life, it's that beauty can emerge where we least expect it.

One may have suffered a thousand defeats, bear countless wounds, their face bruised and bloodied from turning the other cheek time and time again...

One may feel drained of energy, worn out, but one must always look up because any detail can illuminate the path.

Hidden in plain sight, in the foliage of a guava tree, was a nest in the middle of construction. Judging by its size, I assumed it was a hummingbird's nest and decided to try to perpetuate the evolutionary process, something I had never managed to do before.

Each day it had one more twig, one more piece of leaf...

The moments when the hummingbird rested in the nest were magical.

Without disturbing it, I waited patiently for it to go out in search of a flower to sip nectar from or another twig to strengthen its nest, and I approached to check how its interior was taking shape thanks to the magic of nature.

And then the first egg arrived. A sublime creation of life, so grand in such a small space, nestled in a bed of tiny feathers, spiderwebs like a silken carpet to preserve its warmth and beauty...

And the days passed...

And a second egg surprised me even more. When I thought a single egg was huge, imagine my face when I saw there were two, now with the nest much more protected and covered by its inner carpet.

And life made itself present in another curious way.

Two immense, beautiful creatures that don't get in each other's way, but rather complement each other, sharing the warmth and the passing of days with the certain hope of flight and the caress of flowers...

The mother's inquisitive and protective gaze, while I, like the rain, sigh and smile at the gift of realizing that, when we least expect it, beauty gives us back our breath.

Si algo he aprendido de la vida es que, donde menos lo esperamos, puede surgir la belleza.

Uno puede haber sufrido mil derrotas, tener infinitas heridas, llevar el rostro golpeado y lleno de sangre por haber ofrecido una y otra mejilla a los demás una y otra vez...

Uno puede sentirse sin energías, desgastado, pero siempre hay que levantar la mirada porque cualquier detalle puede iluminar el camino.

Escondido a plena vista, en el follaje de un árbol de guayabas, un nido en pleno proceso de construcción. Por su tamaño, asumí es un nido de colibríes y decidí intentar perpetuar el proceso evolutivo, algo que nunca había logrado antes.

Cada día tenía una ramita más, una trozo de hoja más...

Los instantes en que el colibrí descansaba en el nido eran mágicos.

Sin molestarlo, esperaba pacientemente a que saliera en busca de alguna flor que libar o alguna otra ramita para fortalecer su nido y me aproximaba para comprobar cómo su interior iba tomando forma gracias a la magia de la naturaleza.

Y llegó el primer huevo. Sublime creación de la vida, tan grande en un espacio tan pequeño, arropado en un colchón de plumas pequeñas, telas de arañas cual si fuera una alfombra de seda donde conservar el calor y la belleza...

Y pasaron los días...

Y un segundo huevo me sorprendió mucho más. Cuando pensé que un solo huevo era inmenso, imaginen mi rostro al ver que era dos, ahora con el nido mucho más protegido y cubierto de su alfombra interior.

Y se hizo la vida presente de otra forma curiosa.

Dos hermosos pichones de colibríes en un pequeño espacio de luz.

Dos inmensas creaturas hermosas que no se estorban, sino que se complementan para compartir el calor y el paso de los días con la esperanza certera del vuelo y la caricia de las flores...

La mirada inquisitiva y protectora de la madre, mientras yo, como la lluvia, suspiro y sonrío por el regalo de comprobar que, cuando menos lo esperamos, la belleza nos devuelve el aliento.
