Bricks and Other Stories | My entry for #Monomad Challenge [ENG-ESP]

Hello, Hive black-and-white photography lovers!

As I write this, I am still reeling from the aftermath of the latest football match in the current World Cup.

Argentina faced off against Spain. Who did I want to win? Argentina—with two goals and two assists from Messi!

It didn't happen. I had hoped to enjoy the match, but it turned out to be a truly agonizing experience.

As the hours passed, we found ourselves at El Mejunje, a cultural venue where we could watch the game thanks to a backup power system that ensures electricity regardless of the conventional grid.

Since there was no power at home, this was my only option—and fortunately, it exists.

So, we ordered some coffee. At one point, amidst the conversation, I looked around and was once again captivated by the magic of small things that offer us unique perspectives; I decided to capture them in photographs to take my mind off the disappointment of the match.

And so I find myself in the midst of a photographic series that emerges of its own accord—instantaneously and with a certain sobriety—bearing its evident symbols.

I don't feel the need to explain every photo, or the concept of the series as a whole. I’ll simply say I was pleased to realize that I hadn't set out with a prior plan, and the result moved me.

The relationship between what brick walls signify—as I think of Pink Floyd’s music or picture myself in a New Orleans bar listening to the purest American blues or gospel—the bars, the lights and the darkness in their perceptual dialogue, the cobwebs, the smoke, and the silence...

All that and more, to pave the way for viewers to form their own judgments regarding something that is right here—in plain sight—yet goes unnoticed by many.

And so, amidst the sadness of the loss and the beauty of the details of this place, I bid you farewell with a hug of light—until the next black-and-white frame!

Mientras escribo estas líneas, estoy aún con los estragos del último partido de fútbol del presente Mundial.

Se enfrentaron Argentina y España. ¿Quién deseaba que ganase? Pues Argentina, ¡con dos goles y dos asistencias de Messi!

No sucedió. Esperaba disfrutar del partido y fue todo un sufrimiento.

Luego, transcurrieron las horas, estamos en El Mejunje, sitio cultural donde podimos ver el fútbol gracias a que acá hay un respaldo energético que propicia exista electricidad independientemente del servicio electroenergético convencional.

Comoquiera que en mi casa no hay electricidad, pues solo me quedaba esta opción que por suerte existe.

Entonces, pedimos un café. Hay un instante, entre charla y charla, en que observo a mi alrededor y me vuelve a atrapar la magia de las pequeñas cosas que nos regalan visiones diferentes y decido capturarlas en fotogramas para así distraerme de la decepción del partido.

Así me descubro en medio de una serie fotográfica que surge sola, instantáneamente y de modo sobrio con sus símbolos evidentes.

No creo tener que explicar cada foto, ni el concepto de toda la serie en sí misma. Solo decir que me agradó darme cuenta que no me las propuse con planificación previa y el resultado me emocionó.

La relación entre lo que significan las paredes de ladrillos, mientras pienso en la música de Pink Floyd o me visualizo en un bar de New Orleans escuchando el más puro blues o gospel americano, las rejas, las luces y lo oscuro en su diálogo perceptual, las telas de araña, el humo y el silencio...

Todo eso y más para dejar el camino abierto a la elaboración de criterios al espectador ante algo que aquí está, también a la vista de todos, pero que muchos no perciben.

Y así, entre la tristeza por la pérdida y lo hermoso de los detalles del lugar donde estamos, me voy despidiendo con un abrazo de luz, ¡hasta un próximo fotograma en blanco y negro!
