Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing great and welcome to another #Splinterlands post.
Alright, it's time for another #Splinterlands Card Spotlight!
Today I'm checking out Ruinkeeper, a Rare Death / Earth unit with 3 abilities at max level.
At first glance, I honestly thought this was going to be another simple damage card.
But after reading the abilities properly, I was wrong.
Ruinkeeper is actually much more focused on defending your team and making certain enemy strategies less effective.
And I really like cards like this because they can be useful even when they aren't dealing crazy amounts of damage themselves.

At max level, Ruinkeeper has:
Mana Cost: 5
Attack: 3
Health: 7
Armor: 4
Speed: 3
For 5 mana, these stats look pretty decent.
It has enough health to survive some punishment and 4 armor gives it some extra protection.
The 3 speed isn't amazing, but it's not terrible either.
Still, the stats aren't really what caught my attention.
It's the abilities.
Especially Lookout.

Reckless: Each successful attack also deals 1 true damage to adjacent allied units.
The first ability is Reckless.
Whenever Ruinkeeper makes a successful attack, it also deals 1 true damage to adjacent allied units.
Now this is a pretty interesting ability because there's a trade-off.
Ruinkeeper can attack successfully, but your own team takes a little damage around it.
At first I was like, "Wait, why would I want to hurt my own team?"
But in the right lineup, that downside might be manageable.
You just need to think about where you're placing Ruinkeeper and which units are next to it.
It's definitely an ability that requires some planning.

Lookout: Adjacent units take 1 less damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe, or Opportunity. Reduces damage from all enemy Ambush attacks by 50%.
This is probably the ability that makes Ruinkeeper really interesting.
Lookout reduces damage taken by adjacent units from enemies using:
Sneak
Snipe
Opportunity
It also reduces damage from enemy Ambush attacks by 50%.
And honestly, that's a LOT of defensive utility packed into one ability.
If your opponent is building a team specifically around attacking your backline, Ruinkeeper can make that strategy much less effective.
Instead of simply trying to out-damage the enemy, you're basically saying:
"Yeah, good luck getting through my team."
๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐: ๐๐จ๐ข๐
Void: 50% less damage from magic attacks or 0 damage from magic attacks of 1 power.
The third ability is Void.
Ruinkeeper takes 50% less damage from Magic attacks, while Magic attacks with only 1 power deal 0 damage.
This is another reason why I think the card has strong defensive potential.
Magic attackers can be really annoying, especially when they ignore armor.
But with Void, Ruinkeeper has some protection against them.
Combine that with its armor and health, and it can be surprisingly difficult to remove.

Personally, I think Ruinkeeper would be most useful when I expect my opponent to use Sneak, Snipe, Opportunity, or Ambush.
That's where Lookout really starts to shine.
I'd probably place it somewhere where the units I want protected can benefit from its ability.
The positioning is important.
You don't just throw Ruinkeeper into a lineup and forget about it.
You actually need to think about which units are standing next to it.
And that's what makes the card more interesting.

There are quite a few things I like about this card.
Only costs 5 mana.
Good armor for its mana cost.
Void gives protection against Magic.
Lookout protects nearby allies.
Helps counter Sneak and Opportunity teams.
Can reduce Ambush damage.
Provides a lot of defensive utility.
It's basically a card that can make your entire lineup harder to attack from certain angles.
๐๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ ๐๐จ๐ง'๐ญ ๐๐ข๐ค๐
Of course, there are some downsides too.
Reckless damages adjacent allies.
Its effectiveness depends heavily on positioning.
Lookout isn't as useful against teams that don't use those attack types.
3 speed isn't particularly fast.
So yeah. it's definitely not a card that works perfectly in every single battle.
But that's normal.
The important thing is knowing when to use it.
๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ
What I really like about Ruinkeeper is that it doesn't feel like a card you use just for its own survival.
It feels like you're using it to make the whole team harder to defeat.
That's a big difference.
A normal tank protects itself.
Ruinkeeper can potentially protect the units around it while also defending against Magic attacks.
And if the opponent relies heavily on Sneak or Opportunity?
Even better.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
After looking at all three abilities, I think Ruinkeeper is a pretty underrated defensive card.
The stats are solid.
Void gives it Magic protection.
But Lookout is what really makes it stand out.
Being able to reduce damage from Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity attacks can completely change how a battle plays out.
The Reckless drawback does make things a little more complicated, though.
You have to be careful about your positioning because you don't want to accidentally hurt your own important units too much.
But honestly, that's part of what makes the card fun.
It's not just:
"Put card here and hope for the best."
You actually have to think about the lineup.
And I always enjoy cards that reward better positioning and strategy.
I'll definitely be testing Ruinkeeper in more Death and Earth battles to see how well it performs against different team setups.
Anyway thats it for todayโs #Splinterlands grind. Please do give your reviews in the comments section below. I would really appreciate it :)
I'll be back with another one soon. So do follow me if you want to stay updated. Till then, Stay Happy and Stay Hydrated.
