English Version

We Are the Generation That Chooses to Heal

We are the children of those who did the best they could with what they had. We grew up among silences that hid what was never spoken, among rules that were never questioned and emotions that were contained until they became invisible. We learned to read gestures more than words, to survive in the uncertainty of what was not said, and to find meaning in what, for them, had no name.

We carry on our skin the battles of our parents who could not or did not know how to fight. We grew up under the shadow of unresolved traumas, inherited fears, broken dreams that were not ours but that we carried as our own. We were taught to be strong, but not vulnerable. We were prepared to survive, but not to heal.

The Legacy of Silence

This is not about judging their level of awareness, but about understanding that each generation carries the weight of its own history. Our parents were also children of a time when vulnerability was a luxury and introspection was an untraveled path. They grew up in a world where wounds were not named, only endured. Where boundaries were rigid or nonexistent. Where love was demonstrated through sacrifice, not words.

Transgenerational trauma is that invisible inheritance that passes from one generation to another like a suitcase full of stones that no one asked to carry. Many parents carry histories of intense negative emotions that are never resolved. These are "suitcases full of stones" that can unconsciously pass to their children. The transgenerational occurs when we live in the present something that happened back then, when yesterday's pain becomes today's symptom.

The Decision to Break the Cycle

But we are also the generation willing to heal. The one that goes to therapy. The one that can transform pain into understanding. Because we deserve a future where pain is not inherited and emotional well-being is a right for everyone.

Healing is not about blaming. It is about understanding that what we received was what they knew how to give. It is about looking at their history with compassion and at ours with responsibility. Our task is to transcend what we learned without despising it, to build without destroying, to honor without repeating.

Stories like those of Alba and Helen show us that it is possible to break the cycle. Alba discovered that her emotional problems reflected the damage of her parents and grandparents. Without therapy, she confesses, she would have treated her son worse than she experienced at home. Helen actively intervened so that her brothers would not reproduce their parents' behavior with their children. "Now there are no shouts, no punishments, no blows... Everything is very different from what we lived," she celebrates.

A Path of Compassion and Transformation

We are the children of parents who did not go to therapy, but we have chosen a different path. We must accept that we cannot change the past, but we can transform its echo in our lives. We must embrace our wounds with tenderness, turn them into sources of wisdom, and allow ourselves to be, with each step, the generation that opens the way to new ways of loving, living, being.

No matter the path: therapy, meditation, writing, art, community. What matters is the decision to look inward. To name the unnameable. To give permission to what was forbidden for years: to feel without fear of judgment, to express without guilt, to heal without haste.

Because you deserve to heal. Not because you are broken, but because you are human. Not because your history has damaged you, but because the love you deserve includes the care of your own soul. We are the generation that decided to stop surviving to start living. And that, perhaps, is the most revolutionary act of all.
