🎮 When Fun Was Just Two Buttons

Maybe today I’m feeling a bit nostalgic, but when I see my girls competing and having fun on the PlayStation, old memories come rushing back.

I still remember my old NES: a black rectangle with just two buttons and a directional pad.

The Nintendo Entertainment System arrived in Italy at the end of 1987.

It might have seemed simple, but for me, it was a time machine: every game transported me to worlds full of green pipes, turtles to dodge, and castles to conquer.

Then came the Game Boy, my loyal companion on train rides and long, boring summers. The flickering screen and the sound of pixels jumping were my personal soundtrack. No matter how tough a level was, the thrill of beating it without a save was pure magic.

Nowadays, I look at modern games with ultra-realistic graphics and endless open worlds, and I wonder: have we gained complexity but lost some of that simplicity that made every victory special? 😅

I admit I still play on the latest generation of consoles. I had them as a kid, and I’ve made sure my daughters had them too—they keep playing even though they’re older now.

After all, I spent countless evenings with friends playing FIFA, pizza and beer on the table. And even today, I still jump in for a few matches. I can hold my own… of course, the new generations are always a step ahead, but with a controller in hand, I’m still doing pretty well.😎
