Art Blog #19: Coloring Mr. Hatake!

It's almost his birthday, so I am motivated to draw some additions to his page! Kakashi's been my ultimate anime husbando ever since my high school years, so by now I can say I'm quite familiar with his face. I've drawn him a lot of times, and it would be a lie if I said my art style didn't improve for the past years I've been drawing. Those days seem like yesterday to me, and seeing one of my first illustrations of him really proved how much my art style has changed.

It made me cringe and happy at the same time because I couldn't believe that I used to consider this drawing one of my best. Like if I could my meet younger self, I would really laugh at her for drawing his handsome face that way. I can't believe I started like this, so I'm really glad that my art style has become decent now. It didn't happen overnight, for I spent countless of my free days and nights drawing and improving the art style I have. So much for my sentiments, today I would like to share with you the process of coloring one of my recent Kakashi drawing. Interested? Then let's go!

The Materials:
  • Watercolor Pencils
  • Brush
  • Mechanical Pencil

The Process:

1. Since I've already drawn him, I immediately proceeded to color the first part—his hair.

2. After coloring his hair, I proceeded to blend it with a wet brush.

3. Then, after achieving his greyish hair, I colored his face, which is my favorite part.

4. When I'm done with his face, the scarf came next.

5. Then later his shirt, which I blended after I finished with his scarf.

6. Since it's a little wet and I don't want to smudge it, I let it dry for a moment.

7. Voila! It's done~

After finishing him, I couldn't help but stare again at my old drawing. It felt so unreal seeing how I improved because I thought I was already at my best at that time. Like I mentioned, I wanted to laugh but also I want to thank my old self at the same time because I was able to come this far. I know this art style wouldn't be my final one, but I'm hoping it will be further improved in the near future. So yeah, I'll keep on drawing until I reach the one I could call my own. How about you? Have you found yours? If you already have, then you're lucky—but if like me, you still haven't yet, then let's strive to find them.
