Participated in a PROJECT!
A number of weeks ago, I was invited* to participate in a postal art exchange that spanned the globe AND attempted to keep track of the time and distance of travel for each entry! The project has been identified as: THE LATENCY LEDGER
(* The "POST MASTER" for the event was a frequent correspondent of ours, æther cavendish, who managed to coordinate the chaos with considerable understanding and aplomb!)
For my part, I intended to send a small package to South America, something that I USED to do rather frequently for less than TEN BUX (USD) per package. [R.I.P. - Clemente Padin... He was one of the GOOD ONES...] The first package that I put together for The Latency Ledger, which was intended to land in Guatemala and was not LARGE by any estimate, received a $300.00 (USD) cost quote. Yeah... No.
I took the package home, re-evaluated the contents, (sadly) ejected a few extraneous items, and was able to downscale enough to utilize a recycled greeting card envelope for the second shipping container! (Meaning, the package could be sent for two "global" stamps, which I can swing!) I was BACK in the game!!
My contribution went out and, a few days later, I received a cool collection of materials in the post from California, USA! I snapped numerous photos of the un-enveloping, and I sent them to the Post Master for inclusion in the project archive and catalog!
[Honestly, If you've never experienced the THRILL of receiving ART thru the mail, you are SERIOUSLY missing out!!! Get involved in a mail art circle immediately, for your own sanity!]
Time moves on...
Once MOST of the individual packages landed, the Post Master created a fantastic, engaging presentation about the project, which Mariah and I watched as soon as we spotted it! Very cool to be part of such a thought provoking project!!

Make sure that you check out the catalog! It explains the entire process and is quite a piece of work all on its own!!! Thanks, sincerely, to the POST MASTER for inviting me to join! Now.... I need to go make some more postcards to drop in the mail!
