Rubix...

Not quite like riding a bike....

So I taught myself how to do the Rubix Cube about two years ago now I think, I only learned the 7 stage method, which from memory is:

  • white cross
  • White face
  • Second layer
  • Yellow cross
  • top Middles
  • top corners
  • finish

There's a different set of algos for each, and I had committed them to memory.

But having giving cubing a few months off I found I'd forgotten about half of the above algos - certainly the second layer (annoying), but also yellow cross, middles and corners, not the final stage, that's too easy.

I had some kind of idea of what was involved but I guess the problem was so many different subtle possibilities - like i know it's right to start, but down or up, then top, but left or right?

Thankfullly with the help of three cubes and a notepad I was able to recommit these stages algos to memory so know I can do this again!

More or Less...

I wrote the above a couple of weeks back and since then I've had my cubes live and I've been checking in once of twice a day (I find it quite relaxing)....

But today I'd just plain forgotten stage 5 and kept messing the damned cube up then, I know it's

R U R' U R U*2 R' Then I think it's another U - the basic thing is the upper always goes in one direction - anticlockwise while the R alternates - but fuck I had problems.

Had to go back to the old Net for a refresher.

Getting better at the quicker second layer....

It's possible to do the white corners and the second layer at the same time, i am getting better at this - just intuitively looking and thinking about where.

I think I will master this one day!

And then I need to work on the third layer I think - I might be able to learn a few moves rather than rather convoluted moves to finish ATM....

I do quite enjoy it,

But it's not quite like riding a bike!
