First World Internent Connection Problems...
So I tried to get ahead with kickstarting my Broad Band installation process early as I knew there would be at least a few days wait on an engineer coming out to do the install (it's still crazy to me that this is required in this day and age!) but alas I could do nothing until I'd actually moved in.
The main reason for this is the credit-check phase - where you have to have your bank registered at the same address as the property where you're getting the install, or at least I thought that was ideal as I'm going to have to remortgage later this year and don't want any failed credit checks against my name this close to that event.
So I only placed my House Broad Band order last Saturday, I wanted to give it a day after I changed my bank address, thankfully easy as I have an app installed for the one account I wanted to use for this.
I actually had to phone BT, who I opted to go with, as their address finder kept defaulting to a different address at checkout, which was annoying, and the next installation date I got... Friday 5th May.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?
A THREE WEEK WAIT?
For Broad Band in 2023, are you shitting me?
Well 'no' was the polite answer.
Relying on flakey 4G
Thankfully I do have an unlimited 4G phone contract, and it's been mostly fine except that the connection doesn't work so well downstairs when it's cloudy, so I discovered when on a rather long WA video call the other day.
So woe is me.... I can't wander around the house chatting on a video call at my leisure I have to stay upstairs to guarantee a decent connection.
Damn you BT!
But it's not too bad...
Thankfully I can leave my phone hotspotted upstairs and there's a strong signal to my laptop when I'm working down the stairs.
And I have a nice new co-working space (really nice, more on that laters) which has, well, obviously superb internet and that's 24/7.
So it's a minor inconvenience.
And BT messaged me yesterday saying my install date has been moved forwards to the third of may, but the postcode they gave me on the text was WRONG, so that's assuming they can manage to get the correct address...
Who knows... the first three digits were blanked out for security I guess, so I've literally no way of telling if the address they've got is 50 metres or 500 miles away.
Final thoughts....
So there you have, it my current first world problem!
It's not so much the inconvenience that bothers me, that's minimal because I have back up systems in place, it's the sheer incompetence of the company!
NB - the reason I'm going with BT is that I used them before at this same address and for a reasonable price I got perfect service for nearly two years, so on that basis, fine, it's just they need to sort out their installation process me thinks!
