Masks Are Useless

I'm going to say something that might be dumb but give me all ears, because I found it making sense, alright:
I've been thinking about COVID-19 for a while and how it's hazardous to not wear masks, or else we'll be infected, so, I noticed something about masks, when I was going home, I've passed by a garbage box, and I was able to smell the garbage while I was wearing the mask in a completely correct way, then this thing came to my mind, we know that smells are molecules that came from that garbage box and passed to my noise and I was able to smell it, so in my opinion, we know pretty much that viruses are also , so it's supposed to go through my mask and enter my noise, doesn't this make masks useless to wear?
