The solar system is the sun and the eight planets whuch travel around the sun. It also includes moons, asteroids and comets.
The sun is a star at the centre of the solar system it is an enormous ball of burning gas. Planets are huge balls of rock, metal and gas. When something travels around the sun, we say it orbits the sun. Planets orbit the sun. Eartg is a planet. It takes earth 365 days, or one year, to orbit the sun.
Moon orbit a planet. Earth has one moon but some planets have more than 30. Mercury amd venus do not have any moons.
Asteroids are smaller bits of rock. They are the remains of old planets that have broken up.
Comets are balls of ice and dust that orbitthe sun.
