
Justifications and rationalizations
On one of the rare instances I tried reading the comments on some Facebook political posts (I try not to for the sake of my sanity), I saw this particular comment. The main post was about how a tricycle driver made a comment that some of his regulars no longer rode his tricycle to save money. Paraphrased, the comment went, "It's actually a good thing because they can now exercise and save money at the same time! Why not?"
This comment smacked of ignorance and justification. It also brings the mindset that the citizenry should just accept and adjust to the whims of fate. It is sad.
Filipinos are, by culture, very patient, steadfast, obedient, and compliant. "Blessed are the meek," we always hear at church for centuries. Lines at government offices can snake around multiple times. We submit piles of documents to receive benefits and services.
One of these days, it will be a shout of "Enough!"
