Three Tune Tuesday #224 .:. Back to 80-es!

1

For this week of #threetunetuesday I came up with a weird eclectic compilation of seemingly incompatible stuff, but all of it one way or another is 80-es. Worth your attention: Grace Jones, Astor Piazzolla, David Byrne, Kraftwerk, and Karabas-Barabas DJ. Altogether.

Grace Jones — I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)

(official video; from «Nightclubbing» LP, 1981)

Jamaican singer Grace Jones was an 80-es pop idol, fashion icon, actress. This song counts as one of her signature tunes. It is a reworking of Astor Piazzolla's famous 1974 tune 'Libertango'; you might consider the song minimalistic but thats not exactly so - it has a splendid arrangement, created by a bunch of talented artists. Viva la 80-es!

David Byrne and the Balanescu Quartet — Model (Kraftwerk)

(recorded live for West 54 cable TV; 1998)

I know, this is a strange choice to make, to combine pop idol Grace Jones with Kraftwerk and alternative essence of David Byrne, not speaking about some extra layers of orchestration... but I did it! A funny parody of 80-es that I could not resist the temptation to share with you. (This event recorded back in 1998, was Byrne's self attempt at time travelling to the 80-es, as I see it...) Enjoy Byrne's robotic futuristic (or is it retro?..) break-dance - that actually was the reason to add it to my selection. Precious! Sorry for the VHS-low-gen-quality.

Кальянов — Карабас Барабас

(recorded TV show; 1986)

And a little bit of nostalgia for my Russian-speaking readers, listeners, and followers, and anyone else who's sympathetic. A break-dance from the USSR days, exploiting childhood flavor (a trendy theme unmistakably monetizable into success not only in the USSR but anywhere). This certain clip has garnered over 1 million YouTube views in the five years since it was published! (and four of them are mine, lol.)

I hope you enjoyed today's highly eclectic and nostalgic music selection and travelling around the globe without leaving the Hive. 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by ablaze@ablaze.
