Noble Words : Wealth can be destroyed through vices !

It is not easy to digest money and wealth. This is what my parents told me citing some of the examples from bollywood industry. Certain behaviors associated with wealth, such as excessive spending on status symbols or a reliance on wealth for happiness, can contribute to poor habits. These habits may results in the person downfall. This general human phenomenon is well described in following Sanskrit verses :

कामः क्रोधश्च लोभश्च मदो मानस्तस्थैव च|

हर्षश्च शत्रवो ह्येते नाशाय कुमहीभृतां ||

kaaamh krodhashcha lobhashcha mado maaanastathaiva cha.
Harshashcha shatravo hyate naashaaya kumaheebhrutaam.

Kaamh = sexual desire.
Krodhashcha = Krodhh + cha.
Krodhh = anger.
Cha = and.
Lobha = greed.
Mada = pride. insolenc, intoxication
Manastathaiva = maanh + tathaa + iva.
Maan = arrogance.
Tathaa = also.
Iva = similalarly
Harashascha = Harshah + cha.
Harshah = pleasure.
Shatravo = enemies.
Hyate = are.
Naashaaya = for destruction.
Kumaheebhrutaam = ku + mahee + bhrutaam.
Ku = prefix to a letter. denoting deterioration like 'un' in English.
Mahee = relating to land.
Bhrutaam = acquired.
Kumaheebhrutaam = those persons who have acquired land and property through unfair means.

i.e. Lust, anger, greed, pride, impudence and revelry – all these vices are like enemies for a person who has acquired property through wrong means and ultimately become the cause of his destruction.

It is often seen that people who earn wealth through wrong means get ruined by indulging in the vices. The above vices is a sort of warning to those persons who want to become rich quickly through foul means and their downfall results in no time due to their arrogance and indulgence in the vices.

Avoiding these vices and maintaining a simple lifestyle is what is required. But many people find acquiring money through bad means as an easy way and they never respect. Ultimately, it leads to their downfall. This is what my parents were referring too.
