Noble Words : The land that nurtures, the land that inspires !

Ramayana taught.us many important things in life. Those who study the entire lesson did get to learn so many things in life if applied properly. One such lesson which I like is about loving the motherland. People often like to shift to other place leaving behind their homeland. On this the epic Ramayana says :

अपि स्वर्णमयी लंका न मे लक्ष्मण रोचते!

जननी जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी!

Api swarnamayi lanka na me Lakshman rochate
janani janmabhoomishch swargaadapi gasriyasi.

I.e : O Lakshma, although Lanka is golden in hue (very rich country) , I do not like it, because the place of our birth is like our mother and is uncomparable even with with Swarga, the abode of Gods.

This was taken when Lord Ram reaches Lanka. Expressing his love for his mother land, says to his brother Lakshman that although Lanka (which we have won in the battle with Ravana) is a Golden country (very rich) is not liked by me. The country where we were born (reference to Ayodhya) is like our mother and is even better than Swarga, the abode of Gods.

Api = although.
Swarnmayi = golden (rich in every respect).
Rochate = liked.
Janani = mother.
Janmabhoomi = the place we are born.
Gariyasi = better than, uncomparable
Swarga = the abode of Gods, Heaven, the ultimate in comforts of all kinds.

The concept of "motherland" evokes strong emotional attachment due to its association with birth, belonging, and cultural heritage. It's a place where we grow, learn, and develop our sense of identity, making it a source of pride and affection. The motherland represents a nurturing environment that shapes our identity and provides a sense of belonging and love. The land is often associated with our family, friends, and loved ones, creating a deep emotional bond that transcends geographical boundaries. The motherland is a repository of our shared history, traditions, and cultural values, fostering a sense of collective identity.
