Living like Scare-Crow

Every one like to earn money. I have seen people making use of the money in fulfilling their wishes..they have all kind of list, from eating different food, to travelling to far off places, some likes to own jewellery, while some like to spend like a king.

However there are a specific kind of people who just like to keep their money safe. They are called the miser, who only knows to amassing wealth but unable to make use of it properly. Highlighting these kind of people, our sanskrit scholars have these verses for them:

यो न ददाति न भुङ्क्ते सति विभवे नैव तस्य तद्द्रव्यम्|

तृणमयकृत्रिमपुरुषो रक्षति सस्यं परस्यार्थे||

Yo na dadaati na bhunkte sati vibhave naiva tasya taddruvyam,
Trunamaya-krutrima-purusho rakshati sasyam parasyaarthe.

Yo = whosoever.
Na = not.
Dadati = gives.
Bhunkte = consumes.
Sati = truly.
Vibhave = wealth.
Naiva = no.
Tasya = his.
Taddruvyam = tat + druvyam.
Tat = that.
Druvyam = money.
Trunamaya = made of graass.
Krutrrim = artificial.
Purusho = a person.
Rakshati = protects.
Sasyam = crop.
Parasyaarthe = parasya + arthe.
Parasya = others.
Arthe = for the sake of.

The above lines highlight that "A person who neither donates his wealth nor consumes it for his own benefit, that wealth is truly speaking not his wealth. He is just like a scare-crow made out of grass erected on a field to ward off animals and birds for protecting the crop."

Thw scholars define the lifestyle of a miser in beautiful way. As per these lines, A miser as been most aptly compared to a scare-crow erected in a field to protect the crop.
