Shadows at the Fortress

English
Español

Not long ago, I climbed El Vigía hill up to Fortín Solano to clear my mind a little, given the tragedies my country is currently going through. Once I reached the solitude of the fortress, feeling the cold breeze coming off the sea, I set out to photograph the last light of the sunset. The sky had already turned completely dark, with only a final orange strip cutting across the horizon. It is impossible to look at these photos and not feel something profound.

Personally, I cannot help but think of the victims of the earthquakes that devastated my country. They will never have the life they had before, and those who are gone will never return, leaving all their plans unfinished. It is a heavy thought, but one that is hard to shake when you are standing in such an ancient place, looking at the same horizon they once watched.

In the end, photographs of the sunset always bring back memories and feelings of a sadness that we often struggle to describe in words. There is a specific type of ache in capturing the end of the day, especially when the world around you feels so fragile. I wanted to hold onto that last bit of orange light, perhaps because it serves as a reminder of how quickly everything can change, from brightness to total shadow.

These images are more than just a landscape; they are a reflection of a moment spent in silence, trying to process the unprocessable. I hope that by sharing them, they convey at least a fraction of the weight and the beauty of that evening.

I hope you enjoyed these photographs. Without anything more to add, I bid farewell. Stay tuned for future posts! Until next time!
